The Client

VYD support, empower, and inspire marginalised people from deprived and forgotten communities. Helping them reach personal goals through innovative sports and education-based projects, leading to lasting behaviour change and new opportunities.

The Challenge

VYD is a not-for-profit organisation whose existing UI was inconsistent and struggled
to communicate effectively to their different audiences. The problem I needed to resolve was to create a new UI that could inform young children and families the activities they can get involved with whilst also encouraging support from possible fundraisers.

Steps taken
To start I did a full audit of the existing site, highlighting user journeys issues and review of current styling. And gaining a better idea of the
intended audiences from the VYD organisers. The next steps involved producing wireframes and prototypes to create the structure for the new site’s layout and functionality. With wireframes signed off I designed the new UI, creating a new style for the VYD that breathed new life into the site. This included colour palette, typography and an icon set.

I’ve been really impressed with Scarlet’s work. She has a really good eye for web design. And she’s a brilliant illustrator who immediately understands and adds value to a brief.

The Outcome

It was wonderful working with an organisation who were open to me developing styling elements beyond their initial ideas. Collaborative working meant I was able to develop the wireframes, designs and styling with feedback from the team throughout.

Creating a solid UI kit helped create consistency throughout the site and provided the team with a style guide they can continue to apply to their brand. The finalised designs encapsulated the energy behind VYD and fulflilled the brief of reaching their different audiences.

The inclusion of the icon set which complemented the typographic and colour choices, really helped to create a well rounded design that the client loved.
